Page 60 of the Treasure Chest has 4 photos of the "First Scholarship Honors", Joanne Brown, Carlene King, Dick Mather and Deanna Rausch. As said on page 60, "Everyone owes it to himself to become a better student and leader." Ooops! not good it doesn't also say "herself". Since the scholarship leaders have only one boy but 3 girls, "girls" should have been included. Those four honorable scholarship students "tied for their first scholarship honor of their class," the page states. "They each have a 4.0 grade average throughout their high school careers," it adds. All four of them are good looking Pirates! Below those photos, there are good photos of the class officers: President Ray Miller, Vice President John Lindeblad, Secretary Dora-Faye Schmidt, Treasurer Jerre Walley, Sergeant-at-Arms Larry Johnson and Advisor, Mr. Herman Sleizer. Good-looking students, and a bit interesting photo of Mr. Sleizer.
Next to and following on the next 2 pages, pages 61-63, there are photos of a male and female student together, which is how the class students voted...at least maybe so, but I don't remember voting for all of US (I say "Us because I am one of them, and did not or still do not understand why I was chosen for one of the "best" class members). Here are the 24 "Most" and "Best Rogers Class of 60".
Most sophisticated: Ray Miller, Lynda Horey
I sure remember the sophisticated look of Ray, and his class leadership and activities. He looked very scholarly! I do remember the sophisticated-look and personality of Lynda.
Best looking: Denny Snyder, Sharon Williams
Denny did look like our handsomest guy, and I had been a student at Logan, and Sharon was one there, too, and all us Logan guys considered her the best-looking gal.
Most popular: Wyatt Newman, Jackie Koyama
I remember Jackie being a unique-looking girl, she was the only Asian, a Japanese girl, and she had a friendly personality. But, I'm very baffled why I was chosen, not knowing by who or why or how, the popular guy. All I figure is since I beat Mike Jones twice to be Associate Student Body vice president and president, that that was why I got chosen. I don't remember being a popular guy, having a large group of friends or such things. I only had a small group of 4 guys and no regular girlfriends.
Best dancer: Craig Thompson, Janice Otis
Whoever, whatever, whyover the choice.
Best figure and physique: Bob Gay, Jerre Walley
I remember Bob being a shot-putter, but don't know why he was chosen to be the "Most physique" guy. I remember and thought back in the school days Jerre was one of the best lookers but don't remember anything about her physique.
Best line: Joe Vetaly, Judy Drexel
Huh? Why? Oh well! Strange photo of Judy having a fishing pole looking like she caught "the fish" who in the photo was Joe Vetaly. I wonder how and why they were chosed to be "Best line" Class persons.
Wittiest: Duane Freric, Barbara Hegman
I sure thought Duane was one of the "wittiest" but actually thought of him as the "funniest" guy. One of the funniest things he said about himself, and I remember was him calling himself, a "Captain of the Confederate Air Force". I don't think he said that because he was a Southern fella, only said that to be a funny character. Whenever I spent time with Duane I laughed. Barbara had a strong and pleasant, good-looking gal personality.
Most likely to succeed: Steve Pool, Phyllis Bordwell
Steve was the fellow I got to know because he was another class officer; he was the president when I got elected to be vice president, and he helped me, was my "campaign manager" when I ran for Student Body President the second semester. I knew him being one of the best speech team speakers/members, but I wonder to this day if he "succeeded". Without a doubt, I believe Phyllis succeeded. She sure did succeed as a WSU student, and I was a WSU student, passed all but one of my classes but didn't have a high-level grade system. "Phyl" was a very IMPRESSIVE young lady.
Best dressed: Mike Jones, Lorraine Morrison
They don't look so in the photo, but it's a funny and interesting photo, like they are having a rope-pulling contest.
Most studious: Dick Mather, Carlene King
No wonder, since both were 4.0 student graduates, Dick was known by ALL of us, at least other students I know who said so, that Dick was the SMARTEST guy. Why Dick and Carlene were chosen, and Joanne Brown and Deanna Rausch were not, is questionable, of course.
Most athletic: John Lindeblad, Judy Hankel
Without a doubt, John was the most athletic: he played all 4 years a team member of football, basketball and track. I sure thought he was the best athlete. I lived across the corner of Judy, and I knew she was on the girls tennis team, and saw her practice a lot, so I have an agreement opinion that she was probably the best athletic girl.
Best all-around: Dave Sacco, Dora-Faye Schmidt
The most highly unusual photo of those 2. It has Dora-Faye having her head on a paper cutter, and Dave looking ready to slice off her head. Dora-Faye looks like she's resting on a pillow and sticking her tongue out. I knew Dave when we were both at Logan, and he was the best athlete of us guys then and there, and I got to know Dora-Faye my freshman year and more-so our senior year and sure do think she was one of the best all-round gals.
