Ahoy Mates and Mateys,
Just thought we would give you a little rundown of what took place at the reunion.
The weekend started out with a tour of Rogers, which is under construction and restoration. The 1933 gym and locker rooms have been replaced. Six new classrooms have been added above the locker rooms. They have remodeled the outside courtyards, renovated offices and restored the 1932 auditorium. It is really going to be beautiful when they are finished with it. In case you don’t remember, the windows along the sides of the auditorium had been blackened since World War II. For the first time since then, they are uncovered and letting the light shine in. There is a new sound system, cushy seats, and a usable balcony. There have been other improvements but I was very impressed with the auditorium and the courtyards.
Later Friday night, we met at the Ridpath for a No Host get together which was well attended and everyone enjoyed being able to visit in a relaxed atmosphere. Saturday morning several of us showed up at the Rogers track to walk or run a few laps for old time’s sake or just to do it. Then it was off to the Ridpath to do the decorating. Several of our classmates who stayed at the Ridpath dropped in to help or just to visit. The program Saturday night started off with the committee being introduced and thanked. Ken Kelling and Ray Miller presented a Memorial Slide Program honoring deceased classmates. During the course of the evening every alumus in attendance had a picture from the Senior Annual shown on the screen. Each person had to stand so that we could see what he or she looks like now, 40 years later. Dora-Faye Schmidt, Mina Gormanos, and Ken Kelling gave a brief synopsis of where each person lived, etc., interviewing each of them so we could learn a more about each other.
We are sorry that you weren’t able to attend. We had a great time. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next reunion: the big “50” in 2010. If you would like to see pictures from the reunion, just check into our class web page. The Web address is in the front of the yearbook. One of our classmates, Ed Mauget, put it together for us. It has been a lot of fun checking into it often, and a good way of keeping track of everyone. If you have any ideas or would like to help on the next reunion tell me, or one of the other committee members. If you have knowledge of any of our missing classmates please let me know. I would also like to know if you change your address.
God Bless you and your families. Take care and see you in 2010.
Grace (Ward) Kassa
and the Reunion Committee
P.S. There is going to be another “All Years Rogers Reunion in 2002.” You will be getting information on it at a later date.
