Rogers’ Class of 1960

40TH REUNION DEBRIEFING

November 16, 2000

An informal dinner meeting was held on the above date at Chapter Eleven Restaurant to debrief the 1960 class reunion.

Committee members present and participating were:  Dora-Faye (Schmidt) Hendricks; Ray and Christie Miller; Grace (Ward) Kassa; Ken Kelling, Jr.; Mina (Gormanos) Gokee; Judy (Hankel) Smith; Ivan and Ruth Rasmussen;; Nancy (Ostby) Yenney; Don and Carolyn Renz and Betty (Rees) Sanders.  Committee members absent were:  Lynda (Pagnotta) Rouse and Susan (Sanderson) Carlson.

Discussion items included:

Pre-Functions – the school Open House Friday afternoon, the Friday night social time at the hotel, the Saturday morning “run” and the Sunday morning breakfast were important extra events that helped people re-connect – maybe they could be more of a focus next time and promoted better – especially the breakfast (reservations for seating together would have helped)

Memorial – an important part of the program; very appropriately done; “touched” many people

Program – well received; the “inclusiveness” was appreciated (showing the pictures from our graduating annual and then introducing every classmate present was a big hit) and helped everyone connect; a cordless microphone would have made it easier for the “interviewees” to get around the room – maybe dance music wasn’t needed at all since few danced anyway

Decorations – simplicity was appreciated; they were easy to put up and take down with help from other classmates staying at the hotel – the memorabilia table was enjoyed – the table centerpieces were “cute” and appropriate

Hotel – the central location was good – some of the food was a little disappointing but better than average banquets; the desserts weren’t served right – staff assistance was good – some thought the prices a little steep but they’re in line with other hotels

General – scheduling in September is a good time of the year for a reunion

Thoughts for the Future – other locations to consider: maybe The Davenport will be ready in 2010 (since that’s where we had our prom)??; the Arbor Crest Winery (on the hill overlooking the valley); a cruise on Lake Coeur d’Alene

Other:  The committee decided to schedule annual get-togethers in between this and the next reunion;  the first one to be a pot-luck dinner in late January or early February (at Grace’s or at Mina’s?)

Questions:  Comments were not heard but are requested regarding the yearbooks (the cover, the layout, the accuracy etc.) and the process of the planning committee.  Everyone’s current input and participation in the planning of our next reunion is encouraged! Please submit your comments to me by phone (458-7445) or e-mail (Dora-Faye@Juno.com).  Thanks for your interest!
